💸 Prices Are Still Squeezing Our Wallets
Consumer prices rose 0.4 percent in August and 3.4 percent over the past year. Gasoline jumped 3.9 percent in a single month and accounted for more than a third of August’s overall increase.

💣 The Iran War Has Already Cost $38 Billion
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the Iran war directly cost the Pentagon $38 billion through July, mostly from replacing munitions, equipment losses, fuel, and additional military expenses. Continued hostilities could add another $2 billion to $3 billion every month. The conflict has also drawn down critical munitions inventories that could take years to replenish. Roll Call
Follow the money: $38 billion is not an abstract Washington number. It is public money being spent on a continuing war while Americans are being told difficult choices have to be made about spending at home. Congress and the White House should have to explain those priorities clearly.
💵 $155,000 in White House Cash Gifts Raises Ethics Questions
Financial disclosures show Trump gave four White House aides a combined $155,000 in cash gifts, including $45,000 each to three aides and $20,000 to another. A watchdog has asked federal ethics officials to investigate whether the payments complied with restrictions governing compensation of federal employees.
The White House says the payments were personal gifts and complied with ethics rules. The complaint is an allegation, not a finding of wrongdoing. Reuters
Why this deserves attention: When a president personally gives large sums of money to people working inside our government, Americans have every reason to ask questions. Transparency matters because public employees are supposed to serve the public, not leave us guessing about private financial relationships.
✂️ Up to $177 Billion in Federal Grants Has Been Cut or Frozen
An analysis found that the Trump administration has cut or frozen as much as $177 billion in federal grants, affecting all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The disrupted funding touches health, nutrition, environmental protection, education, agriculture, research, and disaster programs.
Some cuts have already been blocked, reversed, or challenged in court, so the ultimate amount lost may change as litigation continues. AP NEWS
Where the cuts land: Trump and Republicans can call these grants, freezes, rescissions, or budget decisions. Back home, they can mean fewer health programs, stalled research, less disaster preparation, struggling farmers, and community organizations losing resources. 🚨 A Judge Says the FEMA Staffing Plan Was Unlawful
A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration acted unlawfully when it ordered a plan to reduce FEMA staffing by roughly 50 percent, including workers who deploy to communities after disasters. The judge found that Homeland Security officials exceeded their authority and described the 50 percent target as arbitrary.

💰 Find out what disappeared locally. Ask state and local officials, universities, health systems, nonprofits, and agencies which federal grants have been frozen or canceled and what services are affected.
☎️ Ask Congress about the war bill. The Congressional Budget Office has now provided lawmakers and the public with a concrete cost. Constituents can ask representatives about authorization, continued spending, military readiness, and what comes next. Friendly reminder, this war was never approved by Congress.
🔎 Keep demanding the receipts. Court records, financial disclosures, inspector-general reports, congressional votes, and independent government statistics give us tools to scrutinize people exercising public power.
