Together, We Can Resist and Stop Project 2025
Project 2025 is not a theory. It is not a warning from the future. It is a clear and present danger to our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, and our rule of law — and it is unfolding right now. Backed by billionaire mega-donors and led by the Heritage Foundation alongside over 100 far-right organizations, Project 2025 lays out a 900-page blueprint to concentrate power in the executive branch and dismantle democratic institutions from the inside out. Every week, new developments remind us that this plan is not abstract — it is being executed piece by piece, policy by policy, story by story. From veterans facing cuts to their disability benefits, to private prisons falsifying records tied to deaths in custody, to top officials spreading outright fabrications to justify cruelty — the pattern is clear. When we understand what is happening, we can push back. Together, we can stop Project 2025, defend our communities, and protect the principles that make America truly free.
What’s Happening with Project 2025?
The past several weeks have delivered a wave of stories that, taken individually, might seem like isolated controversies. Together, they form a damning picture of a government willing to suppress accountability, weaponize disinformation, and sacrifice vulnerable people in service of an authoritarian agenda.
Veterans’ Benefits Under Threat. Democrats have sounded a sharp alarm after learning the Department of Veterans Affairs was considering a policy that would recalibrate disability ratings based on how effectively a veteran’s condition responds to medication. In plain terms: if your treatment works, your benefits get cut. Lawmakers pressed VA Secretary Doug Collins to permanently abandon the rule, which they say bypassed standard rulemaking procedures and could reduce benefits and health care access for hundreds of thousands of veterans. The VA announced a pause in enforcement, but Congress is demanding full withdrawal and a clear explanation for how this policy was advanced without transparency.
Death in ICE Custody — and a Cover-Up. Records obtained by The Intercept revealed that staff at a GEO Group-operated immigration detention facility — Moshannon Valley — falsified required safety checks around the time of a detainee’s death in custody. Despite documented compliance failures, ICE continued its contract with the private prison operator. No accountability. No consequences. Just business as usual for a profit-driven contractor entrusted with human lives.
The Cannibal That Never Existed. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem repeatedly used a sensational story about an ICE deportee described as a cannibal to justify escalating immigration enforcement. Law enforcement sources told The Intercept the story was, in their words, “completely made up.” Senior officials fabricating horror stories to dehumanize immigrant communities is not a gaffe — it is a strategy.
Tariffs, the Courts, and Working Families Left Behind. After the Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s sweeping tariffs, Democrats are calling for refunds to the American families and small businesses that bore the financial burden through higher prices at the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the rent check. The concern: without specific consumer-focused refund mechanisms, any recoupment would flow primarily to corporations rather than the people who actually paid the price.
Why these Project 2025 stories matter
Each of these stories matters on its own. But what makes them dangerous is what they have in common.
Veterans shouldn’t have to fear losing earned support because treatment helps them function. Disability benefits exist because this nation made a promise — and quietly recalibrating ratings to save money is a betrayal of that promise. Policy shifts that destabilize military families don’t just harm individuals; they erode trust in a system designed to honor service.
When private detention operators can falsify records tied to a death and still keep their government contracts, accountability collapses. The lesson becomes brutally clear: preventable harm is acceptable if the contractor is profitable. Strong oversight and real penalties aren’t optional — they are essential when human lives are managed by profit-driven corporations.
Disinformation from people in power is not harmless. When senior officials push fabricated horror stories, they make cruelty easier to sell as “public safety.” False narratives strip away the humanity of immigrant communities and grease the wheels for policies that violate rights, separate families, and endanger lives. Lies told at the podium become laws written into the books.
And when tariff relief bypasses the consumers who paid the price, it deepens inequality and rewards corporate players who were already positioned to profit from the disruption. Economic policy that punishes the many while protecting the few is not an accident — it is a design choice.
Who Benefits from Project 2025?
The consistent thread running through each of these stories is this: power without accountability benefits those who already have power.
GEO Group keeps its contract. Corporate players recoup tariff revenue. Senior officials face no consequences for spreading fabrications. Veterans quietly lose benefits while the policy change happens outside normal rulemaking channels.
Billionaire-backed justices and political elites aren’t serving the people — they are constructing a system where accountability applies only to those without power. That system has a name. It is Project 2025.
The Broader Pattern: Project 2025 is an Attack on Democracy Itself
Authoritarianism doesn’t happen by accident. It is planned. Project 2025 is that plan.
The 900-page blueprint calls for purging tens of thousands of nonpartisan civil servants and replacing them with ideological loyalists — giving the president near-total control over the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the Federal Reserve. It criminalizes dissent, expands militarized policing, and specifically targets immigrants, journalists, LGBTQIA+ people, and political opponents to divide and silence the public.
The plan goes further still. Project 2025 seeks to ban abortion and contraception nationwide, erase LGBTQIA+ protections, dismantle public education, eliminate Medicaid and Medicare, destroy labor and environmental safeguards, suppress voting rights, and impose Christian nationalism by dismantling the constitutional separation of church and state.
What we are seeing in the headlines each week — falsified prison records, fabricated immigration narratives, veterans quietly losing benefits, workers footing the bill for corporate tariff games — is not chaos. It is the blueprint in motion.
Fascism thrives when people feel powerless. That is precisely why people power threatens it. When leaders escape accountability, it signals that power — not justice — rules. It erodes trust, fuels corruption, and opens the door wider to authoritarianism. That is what Project 2025 is counting on.
The path forward is clear — and it requires all of us.
Progress is more than an idea — it is a movement. By standing up, speaking out, and demanding dignity, opportunity, and justice for all, we can build an America that truly lives up to its promise.
