Resist Project 2025 - News Briefs
🚨The Trump Administration demands that states ‘undo’ work to send full food stamps to low-income families
States are being threated with harsh financial penalties if they do not undo any food assistance provided to low-income families, children, seniors, veterans or folks that are sick or disabled that qualify for SNAP programs. — NY Times
Friendly reminder from our friends at Defend America Action:
For every meal food banks provide, SNAP provides nine, meaning food banks cannot possibly fill the gap Trump is creating
About two-thirds of Americans who receive food assistance are children and seniors, and about 1 in 8 U.S. residents and 1 in 5 kids could go hungry
Each dollar of food assistance generates $1.50 in economic activity, supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, and lifts 5 million Americans out of poverty each year
🧊 Trump Is Trying—And Failing—To Shield MAGA From the Shutdown
Even as the government shutdown drags on, Donald Trump is attempting to frame it as targeting “Democrat programs,” but his strategy is failing to protect MAGA from the political fallout. The Atlantic argues that farmers, workers, small businesses and others are feeling the economic strain.— The Atlantic
🪖 A Donor-Funded Army Wouldn’t Just Be Illegal—It Would be Dangerous
The Atlantic investigates a $130 million private donation to cover military pay during the ongoing shutdown, raising alarm about how private funding of the military undermines accountability, supports executive ambition, and threatens constitutional norms. — The Atlantic
📘 I Study Fascism. I’ve Already Fled America
Former Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley explains his recent move to Canada and calls the Trump administration’s takeover of the US government a “coup.” — Mother Jones
📉 Amid Government Shutdown, Republicans Are Showing Us What Autocracy Looks Like
Truthout argues that Republican strategies during the prolonged shutdown—freezing funds, politicizing agency operations, and leveraging power asymmetrically—serve as a case study in how democratic institutions can erode under authoritarian pressure. Republicans are anticipating that vast structural changes will ultimately keep them in power, regardless of how they legislate.— Truthout
🧑💻 Unions Sue to Stop AI Surveillance Powering Trump’s “Catch and Revoke” Deportation Scheme
Major U.S. labor unions have filed suit alleging that the Trump administration used online surveillance of visa-holders and lawful permanent residents to chill dissent, threaten deportation, and undermine free speech—marking a major clash at the intersection of labor rights, surveillance, and immigration. — The Intercept
🗳️ A State-by-State Guide to the Gerrymandering Fight for Congress
The New York Times has provided a deep dive into how new congressional maps and redistricting maneuvers are reshaping the 2026 electoral landscape, with Democrats and Republicans alike exploiting legislative control to entrench advantage ahead of midterm battles. — The New York Times
Together, we can Resist and Stop Project 2025
When leaders escape accountability, it signals that power—not justice—rules, eroding trust, fueling corruption, and opening the door to authoritarianism. Billionaire-backed justices and elites aren’t serving the people—they’re scheming to suppress our voices, strip away our rights, and rule over us. But progress and power to the people is more than an idea; it’s a movement. By standing up, speaking out, and demanding dignity, opportunity, and justice for all, we can build an America that truly lives up to its promise.

Project 2025 is Harming Americans
Project 2025 is an extreme, authoritarian agenda that threatens American democracy, freedoms, and civil rights. Backed by conservative mega-donors like the Koch family and led by the Heritage Foundation and over 100 aligned groups, it lays out a 900+ page plan to centralize power under the presidency and permanently dismantle the federal government as we know it.
The plan would replace 50,000 nonpartisan civil servants with loyalists, grant the president near-total control over agencies like the DOJ, FBI, and Federal Reserve, and criminalize protest through militarized policing. It seeks to ban abortion and contraception, end LGBTQIA+ protections, dismantle public education, eliminate Medicaid and Medicare, and defund labor, environmental, and disability protections. Promoting Christian nationalism, it would erase the separation of church and state, suppress voting rights, and silence dissent—paving the way for a permanent far-right dictatorship.
Summary of Harms:
Dismantles democracy and installs authoritarian rule
Criminalizes dissent and minority communities
Ends reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights
Defunds public healthcare and education
Destroys labor, environmental, and disability protections
Increases tax burdens on working people
Erases civil rights and church/state separation
Suppresses voting and opposition voices
We must organize, resist, and protect our communities from this dangerous assault.

How do we fight Fascism?
Hope
Hope is a powerful weapon against fascism, serving as both a shield and a rallying cry in the face of fear and oppression. While fascism thrives on division, despair, and apathy, hope inspires unity, action, and resilience. Hope empowers us to envision a society built on equality, justice, and freedom, motivating us to take meaningful steps to protect these values.
Respect
Respect is a formidable weapon against fascism, countering its foundation of hatred and dehumanization with dignity and inclusivity. By leading with respect, we create a society where collaboration and compassion overpower fear and division, rendering fascism powerless in the face of unity.
Unity
Unity is one of the most powerful weapons against fascism, as it dismantles the divide-and-conquer tactics that authoritarian regimes rely on to maintain power.
🗽The strength of a nation is not its ability to fight wars, but rather by its ability to prevent them. - Gene Roddenberry
Together, we can protect and empower those we love, champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
