They’re Counting on You to Look Away from Project 2025. Don’t.
The pattern is getting harder to ignore. This week, a federal appeals court allowed Florida’s notorious “Alligator Alcatraz” detention camp in the Everglades to remain open without federal environmental review. The Heritage Foundation pushed a so-called “save the family” agenda that would further undermine child care and safety nets. Trump prepared to host a Mar-a-Lago event for top buyers of his crypto coin, turning access into a luxury product for the wealthy. And the Trump Justice Department moved to expand executions by allowing firing squads and reauthorizing pentobarbital.
This is Resist Project 2025 in real time: cruelty as infrastructure, corruption as governance, punishment as policy, and family values used as a weapon against families themselves. The playbook depends on people missing the connection. We cannot afford to look away.
What Happened: This Week's Project 2025 Stories
This week’s stories were about more than one detention camp, one policy plan, one crypto event, or one Justice Department decision. They showed how authoritarian politics works when accountability collapses. Immigrants can be caged in a remote detention complex that threatens the Everglades. Families can be told they are being “protected” while child care and safety nets are gutted. Wealthy crypto investors can be promised special access while the public watches government get treated like a private business opportunity. And the federal government can move to expand execution methods as if more state killing makes anyone safer.
That is not order. It is a system teaching the public to accept cruelty, corruption, and fear as normal.
Florida’s Notorious “Alligator Alcatraz” Can Remain Open, Court Rules
An abusive detention camp in the Everglades is staying open, and that should alarm everyone. A federal appeals court let Florida’s notorious “Alligator Alcatraz” keep operating without federal environmental review, even as the site threatens the Everglades and cages immigrants in a remote detention complex. People power means defending ecosystems, human dignity, and stopping mass detention before cruelty becomes infrastructure. Mother Jones
The Heritage Foundation Wants to “Save the Family” by Further Undermining Child Care
They call it saving families while making family life harder. Truthout reports the Heritage Foundation’s new plan would gut child care, slash safety nets, and deepen instability for parents, care workers, and children, especially as mass deportation threats grow. Freedom over fascism means rejecting policies that punish caregivers and trap families in precarity. People power means building a country where care is protected, funded, and treated as essential. Truthout
Trump to host bash for crypto investors tied to his coin sales
Selling access to a president is corruption, no matter what they call it. The Guardian reports Trump is hosting a Mar-a-Lago event for top buyers of his $Trump memecoin, with top investors promised special access while watchdogs warn of pay-to-play risks and personal profit from public office. People power means rejecting government for sale and demanding accountability when wealth is used to buy influence. The Guardian
Justice Department to allow firing squads for executions in move to ramp up capital punishment
The Trump Justice Department wants to expand execution methods by bringing back firing squads. NPR reports DOJ will permit firing squads and reauthorize pentobarbital executions as it pushes to speed up federal death penalty cases. A government that normalizes more killing does not make us safer. People power means defending human rights, rejecting state cruelty, and refusing to let authoritarian punishment become policy. NPR
💔 Why It Matters and Who Is Harmed by Project 2025
Think about the immigrant locked inside a remote detention camp where human dignity and environmental protection are both treated as obstacles. Think about the parent who cannot afford child care while powerful organizations push policies that make family life harder. Think about the care worker, the child, the low-income family, and the immigrant household all caught in a politics designed to destabilize them. Think about what it means when presidential access can be tied to crypto wealth while ordinary people are told their government is not for sale. Think about a Justice Department that wants to make executions faster and more brutal instead of building safety, accountability, and justice.
These are not isolated headlines. They show the human cost of a politics that protects the powerful and punishes the vulnerable. The people harmed first are immigrants, children, parents, caregivers, low-income families, communities near threatened ecosystems, people trapped in the criminal legal system, and everyone whose democracy weakens when public office becomes a profit machine.
That is why Project 2025 is not just a document or a slogan. It is a governing model built on fear, impunity, privatized power, and state cruelty. But people power reminds us that fear is not our future, cruelty is not our destiny, and together we can build a democracy rooted in freedom, dignity, justice, and accountability.
🔍 The Bigger Picture: This Is What Authoritarianism Looks Like
Keep a detention camp open in the Everglades. Call it “family values” while making child care harder to access. Sell special access to the wealthy while pretending it is not corruption. Expand the machinery of death and call it justice. That is the authoritarian pattern this newsletter tracks under Project 2025: more cruelty, more corruption, less accountability, and less democracy.
Authoritarianism does not always arrive in one dramatic moment. It grows when detention becomes infrastructure, when care is gutted in the name of morality, when public office is treated like a private cash register, and when state violence is normalized as policy. That is the connection across these stories. They are all about concentrated power, shrinking rights, and a system trying to teach the public that some people can be harmed, caged, exploited, or killed without consequence. But people power reminds us that no authoritarian plan is stronger than millions of people rising together to defend freedom, dignity, justice, and democracy.
📢 What Comes Next: Keep Being Loud
🏛️ Congress and detention oversight
Demand hearings into “Alligator Alcatraz,” immigrant detention expansion, environmental harm, and the use of remote camps to hide cruelty from public view. Congress should not allow mass detention to become permanent infrastructure.
👨👩👧 Defend child care and family support
Reject any agenda that claims to “save families” while gutting child care, safety nets, and support for parents, children, and care workers. Real family policy means funding care, not punishing caregivers.
💰 Expose corruption and pay-to-play politics
Keep calling out every attempt to turn public office into a profit machine. Presidential access should never be for sale, whether through campaign cash, corporate influence, or crypto schemes.
⚖️ Reject state cruelty as justice
Oppose the expansion of executions, firing squads, and policies that normalize government killing. A country committed to human rights should be reducing violence, not making state punishment more brutal.
🌎 Protect people and the planet together
Defend the Everglades, public lands, clean water, and the communities harmed when detention, extraction, and political cruelty override environmental protection.
📣 Refuse to normalize the pattern
Say it clearly: detention camps, gutted care, pay-to-play access, and expanded executions are not separate scandals. They are warning signs. Share these stories, name the abuse, and refuse to let authoritarian politics hide behind bureaucracy, propaganda, and fear.
Together, we can defend our rights, freedoms, the rule of law, and democracy, hold leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
People Power United is independent, people-powered news and grassroot movement actions dedicated to defending our rights, freedoms, the rule of law, and democracy.
